THE WALKING DEAD, SEASON 6 EP 2 REVIEW: DEATH IS A WELCOME VISITOR

Episode 2 of the latest contribution to season 6 of The Walking Dead was really good and really frustrating. Which means it had all the hallmarks of a classic episode. Just enough of the really awesome stuff to keep you wanting more. Too much of the crap on screen that takes up too many of the precious few 40 minutes we have to enjoy each episode.

It was satisfying to know the source of the horn and the gunfire. It was a shame we spent too much time on adolescent love triangles. AGAIN! Seriously. Why do we have to slow down drama for silly moments when what is clearly a mass rampage of ghastly proportions is happening on their doorsteps? And while we’re on the subject… How do you justify a character like Morgan Jones, played by Lennie James, take a stance that killing is wrong, refuse to kill people, yet waste precious minutes beating, then tying up very elaborate knots when he could be using that time for say…. HELPING¬†keep other people alive by saving them during this murderous orgy of violence and mayhem (which was awesome to see!).

Nonetheless, it was a nice return to form, for what is clearly shaping up to a be a season with more action and intensity… Just the way nature intended.
